Nothing warms you up like stuffed cabbage rolls, stuffed with ground meat or vegetarian alternatives and tomato sauce on top. Part of the Winter meals series.
Nothing warms you up like stuffed cabbage rolls, stuffed with ground meat or vegetarian alternatives and tomato sauce on top. The ultimate comfort food that’s healthy and has a real old world feel to it, stuffed cabbage rolls. A wonderful way to feed your family. You can even have some cabbages stuffed with meat and others with your vegetarian choice.
Put oven on 325 (Or if you want to keep it in longer than one hour 300) Cabbage:Use a large green cabbage. With a paring knife cut the leaves from the stem. Gently divide the leaves. Boil leaves in large pot. Put ice in a large bowl. As soon as cabbage is tender, take individual leaves and place on ice. As soon as they cool down put on tray. Stuffing:Mix ground meat or meat alternative with cooked rice or/& breadcrumbs and grated zucchini. Add in nutmeg, salt, pepper and if you want Soya Sauce. See my article on how to make tomato sauce. Or just use your own recipe or your favorite kind in a jar. Leave in oven for at least 1 hour or when stuffing is done (meat will take longer than vegetarian alternatives. You might want to put the temperature down to 300 and leave it in there longer that way the tomato sauce will infuse the stuffed cabbages).
